What do we do in a typical day?

Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays:

9:00 - 9:15
Greet the children, find their name and answer the question of the day. 

9:15 - 9:20
 Names.  The children find their names and trace them
.

9:20 - 9:45

Circle time:  This is when we do more structured learning.  Circle time prepares our children for kindergarten.   We start with three songs, which change monthly, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.  We then take attendance and sing songs to learn the days of the week and months of the year.  We count every day.  We start the year counting to twenty, and by the end count all the way to one hundred.  We talk about a different country each month to learn geography.  We introduce our letter of the week through phonics and then learn our Spanish.  Circle time ends with the children picking the center that they would like to start off with . 


9:45 - 10:45
 
Children are encouraged to visit all the centers. We keep four children to a center.  We visit the teacher for learning.  Children are grouped by their ability.  We do  different learning activities each day.  Monday & Tuesday consist of patterns and math games.  Wednesday and Thursday we work on our journals to  practice writing skills and learn their names and letters.   Friday is the letter of the week for the children's alphabet book.  We do an art project each day.  This is to help with creativity, following directions, using scissors and other items.  We paint on the first two days of the week. 

10:45 - 11:05
During this time the children clean up the classroom.  When they are all done we return to the carpet area to pick partners for snack.  The children then wash their hands and sit down at the snack table.

11:25 - 11:50
Gym or music


11:50 - 12:15
Independent learning.  Children have a choice of puzzles, computers, coloring, and other quiet activities during this time.

12:15 - 12:30
Partners and handwashing.


12:30 - 1:00
Lunch

1:00 - 1:45
Centers and afternoon journals


1:45 - 2:15
Clean up and preparing to go home.

2:15- 2:30
Closing Circle.  This consists of Skippy Jon Jones, story, and a recap of the day.
